Woven Orbits is dedicated to the production of extraordinary and eloquent artistic and culturally relevant entertainment and performances that keep with both ancient and modern artistic expression.  We aim to provide performances and educational programs that will be an essential and unique resource to the community

 

Our collective Cultures are rich, varied and important!  We have a shared humanity that is woven tightly like a simple piece of cloth, yet each piece of us is needed for the full tapestry of the human existence.  Our contributions to that world tapestry as African people of the diaspora is varied and magnificent.

Performance art in the throughout the world, is traditionally through story telling and poetry.  Other artistic pieces have been been expressed through calligraphy, textiles and architecture.  Religious artistic expression takes on many different characteristics.  For instance, art within the Islamic world is only a reflection of the ethnic and national civilization of the particular Muslims  presenting it.  Since Muslims themselves are part of many nations and thus have many 'ethnic' cultures - our Islamic culture enhances and furthers the literature, theater, music and art of each individually.

Through the use of the arts, we are not only able to enhance the love of our own culture - but its understanding too with all its ideological aspects interwoven to make a tapestry of the human condition..

It is indeed a historical fact that literature, theater and art have been the cause of revolutions in the life of the human being.  Theater has a way of transforming us into a world we can relate to or try to relate to and thus improve our collective condition.

​

Theater not only reinforces our collective consciousness, but helps others understand who we are, celebrate what our language, tradition, values and religion has brought to us as human beings and can even discuss ills that have overwhelmed our ethnic/national cultures. This is especially important to those of us from African ancestry whose voice has been stifled by racism and definitions of fundamentalism which ignores the fundamental human need for self expression and artistic development.

As we may delve within our own orbit of thought and actions, but the reality is that all worlds collide and there is no theater that is not relevant and intersecting with all different societies whether that is through historical narratives and experiences or shared values about human life and existence.  The stories here are meant to weave together our collective humanity with all the eloquence that comes naturally from within the human spirit..
